Welcome to Med Lab!
This course is designed to provide the medical assistant student with an understanding of their responsibilities concerning the physician’s office laboratory (POL). This is a hands-on class that includes lectures and independent laboratory work. Students will participate in clinical labs, venipuncture blood collection, return demonstrations and group discussions of current issues in medical laboratory practice.
This course focuses on the theory of laboratory testing and practical application of selected CLIA-waived tests in the disciplines of hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, immunology, serology, and microbiology. This course incorporates learning strategies such as interactive lecture, individual project(s), and written application of learned theory, non-graded feedback mechanisms, hands on skills assessment, and graded assessments (exams and quizzes).
I am very excited to teach this course and explore new information with you this semester. My goal is to make the learning as real as possible to mimic what will happen in a real medical office. I expect your full participation in this class. It will be fun and exciting! I look forward to watching you learn and grow as a student and as a developing health care professional.
